College of William and Mary: Williamsburg VA University Campus Near Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens & New Town Discovery Business Park

The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg VA is America’s second oldest college and enjoys a long and distinguished history. Its current chancellor is Sandra Day O’Connor, former Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Past Chancellors of the college have included Lady Margaret Thatcher, Warren Burger, former Chief Justice of the United States, and Dr. Henry A. Kissinger, former United States Secretary of State and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

The College of William and Mary upholds a commitment to maintaining a demanding curriculum and a superior teaching staff. Its student to faculty ratio remains at 12:1, one of the lowest of any national public university.  The College offers a liberal arts education with 36 undergraduate programs and 14 graduate-level program in the arts and sciences, business administration, education and law.

The Muscarelle Museum of Art is located on the campus of the College of William and Mary. The museum houses a permanent collection of nearly 4,000 paintings, sculpture, and works on paper from many cultures and eras. In addition, special exhibitions provide visitors with an introduction to works of art from other collections worldwide. The painting collection features American art, with works by Jasper Cropsey, Rembrandt Peale, Isabel Bishop, Georgia O’Keefe, Jacob Lawrence and Hans Hoffman.

Distinguished alumni include four US Presidents, three members of the Supreme Court, thirteen members of the US Senate, Congress and Speakers of the House, and eleven Governors. The list also includes numerous other members of the US Cabinet, Diplomats, government and military leaders, well-known arts and media personalities. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has made two visits to CWM, one in 1957 and one fifty years later in 2007

The campus is just across the street from Colonial Williamsburg, and close to Busch Gardens. Its rich and distinguished history seems reflected in its beautifully maintained grounds and traditional architecture. The recent addition of the technology-rich Discovery Business Park in nearby New Town provides students an opportunity to participate in research and development, and strategic planning.

The College of William and Mary is located in Williamsburg, Virginia just 150 miles south of Washington DC between Richmond and Norfolk.
