Art on the Square

This event is one of my fondest memories of spring time in Williamsburg. For over 45 years the Junior Women's Club of Williamsburg has organized an annual art show to benefit numerous local charities. Held throughout Merchants Square, there will be over 160 artists and craftsman displaying works. I remember when this Sunday finally rolled around, I couldn't wait for church to be over so my family and I could walk down the street from Bruton Parish and begin to take in all that was on display for this event. You won't want to miss this! This year it will be held on Sunday, April 25th from 10 am to 5 pm.

If you are a fan of the College of William and Mary, then this day is for you! The coronation of King William and Queen Mary happened on April 11, 1689. Four years later they chartered the college named after them, The College of William and Mary. In celebration of that blessed day, a new tradition has been started, hailed as Coronation Day at William and Mary. On Monday, April 12th, please pull out all your W&M paraphernalia, from your hats and t-shirts to pins and flags, and proudly wear them about town! Please join in on the fun and festivities and celebrate this wonderful school which is such an important part of Williamsburg, Virginia.
Spring in Colonial Williamsburg is a beautiful time. The gardens are spectacular in every way, from their design down to the choice of plants. For anyone wishing to create beautiful gardens such as the ones in the historic area, the Garden Symposium is for you. Starting Sunday, April 11th through Monday, April 12th beginning at 7:30 am you can participate in learning about how these gardens are created. The focus will be on design concepts, gardening techniques, and plant selections that are time hardy. The ideas presented can easily be adapted to the modern home garden. Elizabeth Tisdale Armstrong

I was born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia, and from a very young age, my love of the beautiful, historic town took root. My father worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for 21 years as an audio-visual engineer. As members of the historic Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, our family attended services regularly and sang in the choir. I was married in that church in 1987. During my college years, I worked every summer as an interpretive hostess in many historic buildings. Today I am a teacher and published author. Although I currently reside in the Columbus, Ohio area, my heart still belongs to the Colonial Capital.
