There is nothing quite like celebrating our nation's birthday in the historic town where it all began so long ago. Colonial Williamsburg has planned many short programs throughout the day on Sunday July 4th, but here are some highlights:
10 - 10:30 am,  Salute to the States in Market Square
12:30 - 12:45, A Declaration of Independence on Duke of Gloucester Street along capital circle
8:15 - 9:15 pm, Music for Fireworks in Merchants Square
9:15 - 9:35, Fireworks display over the historic area

Something special you may want to do this year... the Governors Palace Picnic for the Fourth!  Held on the palace grounds, you will enjoy a festive picnic with entertainment from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. Adults, $51. Children 6 to 12, $25. Reservations are required. Call 1-800-447-8679.

Elizabeth Tisdale Armstrong

I was born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia, and from a very young age, my love of the beautiful, historic town took root. My father worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for 21 years as an audio-visual engineer. As members of the historic Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, our family attended services regularly and sang in the choir. I was married in that church in 1987. During my college years, I worked every summer as an interpretive hostess in many historic buildings. Today I am a teacher and published author. Although I currently reside in the Columbus, Ohio area, my heart still belongs to the Colonial Capital.
