2013 Fourth of July Activities and Fireworks in and Around Williamsburg

July 4! is a time for all Americans to celebrate Independence Day. So, pack up the car with picnic baskets, blankets, sparklers ... and don't forget the kids! Williamsburg and the surrounding areas offers something for everyone - from parades, fireworks, concerts and picnics. Whatever you do, celebrate this year with a bang! Forget New York City. Forget even Washington, DC. If you're hoping to celebrate the anniversary of America's independence in true form, there's no better place to do so than in Williamsburg, Virginia, one of America's oldest towns, a place that's been around since long before America became America.

Spend time in and around Williamsburg and historic Colonial Williamsburg and enjoy terrific fireworks, picnics and more.

• Let Freedom Ring. Yorktown Independence Day Celebration starting at 9am with a patriotic parade on Water Street and again during the evening festivities. Bell ringing ceremony starts at 7pm with more entertainment at 8pm at Riverwalk Landing. Fireworks on the York River start at 9:15pm. Click here for schedule of events.

Busch Gardens Fireworks Extravaganza. July 2 - 4. Three nights of patriotic firewords after dark. Fireworks Extravaganza starts at 9:30 PM

Spirit of America at the VLM Planetarium. July 4, 5PM, 6PM, 7PM, 8PM and 9PM. Reserve tickets necessary.

Colonial Williamsburg events:

Enjoy a traditional "All-American" picnic at the Governor's Palace in Colonial Williamsburg from 7:30-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. Your $55 ticket includes a picnic lunch of Southern fried chicken, American-style potato salad, coleslaw and red velvet cupcakes, as well as a commemorative blanket. Tickets are $25 for children.

You'll also enjoy a performance by the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums, dance performances, storytelling and other musical presentations.

Tickets also provide you with a great view of the traditional 4th of July fireworks extravaganza.

You don't need to attend the Governor's Palace Picnic to get a good view of the fireworks. The rockets start at 9:15. Musical performances start at Market Square Courthouse begin at lead up to the main event.

Merchant Square and Palace Green are the best places to watch the fireworks.

You also may want to enjoy Independence Day Tavern Dinners at four participating Williamsburg restaurants, Chowning's Tavern, Christiana Cambell's Tavern, King's Arms Tavern, and Shield's Tavern.
