Guide To Williamsburg

July 2009 Archives

With all this rain it made me think of staying at a Bed and Breakfast. I love this place. Ok, I am a little partial because I got married there. They took care of everything and made a very special day in my life just perfect. They think of everything and all you have to do is show up. I will never forget this place and every day that I drive by it puts a smile on my face. So whether you have Birthday, Anniversary or just want to make a special night, stay there and see for yourself what I am talking about. You will be connected forever!
If you live in this area or visiting than you have to check out WYdaily.com website. Check out the Save 30% link! You can pay less for gift cards from Cheeburger to Tribe games. I bought ZPizza and Kitchen at Powhatan just because I have not been there but I will let you know how it turns out!
I went to the Williamsburg Winery for lunch today. You can sit inside or outside. If you sit inside you can sit in their sunroom and have air conditioning plus the view of the vineyards. The last time I went it was winter so it was neat to see grapes hanging off the vines. It isn't fancy by any means; old kitchen tables and chairs, a white ceiling and old sliding patio doors. The food is always fresh (very good) and if you are in the mood for a sandwich lunch and a few glasses of wine this is the place to go. They have really good coffee and cookies afterwards. There is just something about this place I like; I feel like I am really far away from everything, the small German town feel and just a different atmosphere. You can do a wine tour for $8 dollars and you get to keep the glass. They have added a bunch more states to ship to as of July 21st. I found out today that I can ship to Missouri; my Mom and Grandma will be very happy! My favorite wines are the James River White and Plantation Blush. When I have guests, these two seem to please the majority of pallets. I haven't tried all their wines yet but working on it!
They are located at 430 Waller Mill Road. I went there on Saturday for their garage sale. This is the best humane society I have ever been too. They take really good care of all animals and you get that feeling as soon as you walk through the doors. They have so many cute little kittens right now so if you were thinking of expanding your household than please go and check them out. I love the open environment and just being able to walk through. They are on Facebook, Myspace and Twitter; just in case you want to keep up with what is going on over there!
This park is located off route 60 and Airport Road. They have a 286 acre lake which is open for fishing, boating (no gas motors), pedal boating, canoeing and kayaking. You can bring your own or rent them there. They have a dog run area for both small and large dogs. They have a playground and several picnic areas. They have bike trails and walking trails. My favorite is walking to Lookout Tower; the view is spectacular. If you haven't been to this park than it is a must see. This park has something for everyone including the family dog! I did have quite the adventure there, I took my dog Boston for a walk and I thought we were on the trail but some how got off the trail and ended up lost. After walking around for 3 hours; I just looked at Boston and asked her to please get us back to the car. She is the best dog ever; she found the way back. My only recommendation is to carry a cell phone.
This is in my top 10 places to eat here in Williamsburg. You can sit outside or inside. I prefer the outside; overlooking the 18th hole and the James River. The St. Louis platter is phenomenal for dinner. It is the best steak you can eat in this town. It is expensive but worth the price. If you still wanted to enjoy the atmosphere but didn't want to pay the dinner price than eat lunch there. It is reasonably priced and there is no other place that has that great of a view and great food.
I think this is the best place to take a blind date or happy hour with co-workers. Even if you don't like the company you are with; it has the best view in Williamsburg. The water is relaxing which I think it makes you open up more than you would any where else. Or is it the alcohol? Ok, you have to admit when the water gets ruff it is fun to watch the boats try to dock! They are closed during the winter but you can bring your lunch and still enjoy the view.
I guess everybody had the same idea as me and went to Busch Gardens on the 4th! This is in my top ten of places to go. It has something for everybody from the thrill seekers to shoppers. I took my son to Forest of Fun and he is still asking me to see Elmo. He played in the water the whole time. Which reminds me, if you have a little one, bring a change of clothes, swim diaper, towel and suntan lotion. Then we hopped on the train which is his second favorite thing to do. We sit in the very front because when the engineer fills the train with water he makes a whistle sound that sounds just like a real train whistle. Oh, my son loves that! I have been there so many times and I still haven't seen and done everything they have to offer! My favorites are Apollo's Chariot, Griffon, Forest of Fun, Breakfast with Elmo, Pet Shenanigans and Howl-O-Scream. I just can't wait to see Christmas Town!
