Trees clear cut on bypass road

You Asked Mayor Zeidler

QUESTION: Dear Mayor Zeidler – What is going on where the trees have all been clear cut on bypass road across from the visitors center?

ANSWER: The City’s Planning Commission unanimously approved Colonial Williamsburg’s site plan for pastures on an 80-acre tract owned by the Foundation in early 2009. There will be 21 acres of pastures, primarily for horse, and is intended to provide additional green space to pasture and care for Colonial Williamsburg’s livestock. There will also be a stable to house the animals overnight and a storage building for equipment related to animal care. The pasture will be screened from Bypass Road by existing wooded area.

COMMENT: Dear Mayor Zeidler – It would have been a nice community gesture for someone from High Street or the shopping center where Sals by Victor was originally to offer him a years lease for free – and I am certain with the amount of people that his business draws in – it would have worked wonders for the economic development of either of those areas. Thanks.

REPLY: This concept was discussed and offered to Sal’s immediately after the fire. Sal’s existing lease with the shopping center where he is has been located prevented him from pursuing this option. What we have been able to do is notify Victor and the shopping center that we will expedite any permits they require as soon as they submit them. We all want to see Sal’s by Victor open again.
