Women in History Month

Colonial Williamsburg is spending the month of March celebrating women’s roles in history. As visitors walk through the restored area, they can meet actors portraying women from colonial times. Some of the women highlighted are Catherine Blaikley, a midwife who delivered some 3,000 babies; Ann Wager, a governess who was eventually appointed mistress of the Bray School for African American children in Williamsburg; Edith Cumbo, a free black woman living in Williamsburg; and Lady Dunmore, Charlotte Murray, a Countess known for her charm and grace. For more information, please visit www.history.org.
