Biking In the Williamsburg Area
With more that 25 bike routes, the area is brimming with biking oppurtunities. Williamsburg offers an un-beatable biking experience, with breathtaking views and the trails that are perfect for any level rider.
Historic Williamsburg Trail –
This is a very easy ride starting at Merchants square and traveling around the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg. The trail is 5.2 miles long, mostly flat and passes near or in front of practically every major historic building in the area, making it great for sight seeing!
Colonial Parkway – The Colonial Parkway spans 23 miles of unmarked, scenic aggregate pavement for bikes with tires that can take it – a hybrid or mountain bike makes for a smoother ride, but skinny tires will do. This is a must do for any cyclist … or driver! The parkway is also accesible to cars and maks for a great joy ride in the fall.
If you want to ride enven further the Colonial Parkway will connect you to Virginia Capital Trail, which connects the past and present capitals of Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Richmond, along the Scenic Route 5 corridor.
Carriage Rides Downtown
Horse-drawn carriage rides are a must when visiting Williamsburg. A trip around historic downtown is made much more authentic when taken in the govenor’s coach! Carriage rides are extremly popular and each year about 50,000 people take a ride on the coaches through Colonial Williamsburg. Some riders really get into the spirit of the ride and dress in Colonial attire.
