Williamsburg Local Wins The Lottery!

York County resident Joseph Burns won the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 drawing for August 18, 2008.

Burns had purchased his Cash 5 ticket at a Shell gas station in York County’s Tabb area. He said he was watching the Olympics over the weekend when he saw the winning numbers cross the bottom of the screen. After comparing them with his ticket, he realized he had the winning numbers. Burns claimed his $100,000 prize the following Monday when the Virginia Lottery declared him the Cash 5 winner.

The Cash 5 game awards $100,000 to winners wagering $1 who match all five numbers to the numbers drawn. Participants can choose five numbers ranging from 1 through 34.

The August 18 winning numbers were: 3-7-16-20-29. Some might say Burns’ lucky numbers finally paid off, but as it turns out, he won the ticket using randomly drawn numbers!
