As locals know, Lafayette High School is a breeding ground for talent. With its famously rigorous theater program, a football team spawning NFL legend Lawrence Taylor, and even a championship winning band, the school has started a lot of greats on their way. Now, a country star can be added to the school’s most notable who’s who, as 2001 graduate Canaan Smith takes to the country music stage.
In January of 2012, this Williamsburg native released his first single “We Got Us” which instantly created a national buzz. It debuted at number 53 on the country charts and has risen to number 44 in recent weeks. The music video for “We Got Us” made Great American Country TV’s top 20 ballot!
Smith is currently working on finishing the rest of his debut album, as the country music world eagerly awaits the rest of the tracks. Country Weekly magazine even featured him as someone to watch in 2012!
The young singer recently played at the CMA music festival in Nashville, alongside famous names such as Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, and Carrie Underwood. Smith also is touring all summer long opening for Sugarland!
