Although she hails from the Big Apple, actress Mamie Gummer is soon to be one Williamsburg’s most talented residents – at least for a while! Ms. Gummer has been chosen as Colonial Williamsburg’s first ‘artist in residence’ and will be performing the role of Charlotte Dumore in “Lady Dunmore Prepares for the Ball“ at an open-air theatre on the grounds of the Governor’s Palace.
Ms. Gummer, 27, has been appearing in movies since she was a young child, beginning with an appearance with her mother, the legendary actress Meryl Streep, in Heartburn. After graduating from Northwestern University in 2005, she debuted in the appeared off-Broadway production Mr. Marmalade.
Ms. Gummer is a respected actress in her own right, with a list of winning performances that include:
- An off-broadway debut in Mr. Marmalade for which she earned a Theatre World Award in the Roundabout Theatre in 2005
- The role of Tisha in Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock
- The daughter-in-law of John and Abigail Adams in the memorable Emmy award-winning HBO miniseries John Adams
