Local Newport News resident Mike Zeigler walked away with $25,000 on the popular TV game show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”
Zeigler says he has always enjoyed trivia games, and “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” appealed to him because it was the easiest way to make the most money, so he applied to be a contestant online.
During the course of the show, Zeigler answered several sequential questions correctly, climbing to the $100,000 mark. That’s the question that Zeigler needed to use a “lifeline” to poll the audience.
Here’s a look at the question that had Zeigler — and the audience — stumped:
In which of the following would you most likely find a phloem bundle?
- A. Car Engine
- B. Brain Stem
- C. Banana Skin
- D. Oyster Shell
Unfortunately, the audience steered him in the wrong direction, with 60% leaning toward answer B – “Brain Stem” when the correct answer was actually answer C – “Banana Skin.” But Zeigler still walked away with a hefty $25 grand and a big smile on his face.
At 61 years old, Zeigler plans to use his winnings to pay off debt and purchase a metal detector, something he has always wanted. He also announced plans to try to get on another popular TV game show “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?”
