Non Profit Spotlight: Orphan Helpers
ORPHAN HELPERS Inc., a Hampton Roads international children's ministry, is meeting the needs of orphaned, abused and incarcerated children in Central America. Founded in 2000 by local realtor Greg Garrett and his wife, Libby, ORPHAN HELPERS has impacted thousands of children housed in government-run orphanages and detention centers throughout El Salvador and Honduras. We focus on the physical, spiritual, emotional and educational needs of nearly 1,200 children every day. An in-country staff of teachers, caregivers and counselors educate and train these kids through grade-school classes, PC literacy, life-skills, and vocational training programs (garment making, commercial baking, beautician training and woodworking). ORPHAN HELPERS partners with individuals, churches, businesses, organizations and governments in order to help these children realize God has a purpose and a plan for their life.
Williamsburg has a big heart for lonely and forgotten children! Its citizens understand that their rich heritage and prosperity comes with a social responsibility, not just locally but around the world. Several members of the ORPHAN HELPERS' Board of Directors are residents of Williamsburg; and, there is no better place for awareness and fundraising events! Williamsburg hosted the inaugural ORPHAN HELPERS Golf Classic at one of its world-class golf courses. From Kingsmill to Ford's Colony to Colonial Estates, Williamsburg continues to provide world-class venues for ORPHAN HELPERS to showcase the good work we do to help hurting, lonely kids. From fashion shows to golf tournaments to motorcycle rallies to formal banquets, Williamsburg is the city of choice for ORPHAN HELPERS events.
