Williamsburg State of Mind Video

A Williamsburg parody of the popular hit "Empire State of Mind" by Jay Z has got everyone's attention. The video "Williamsburg State of Mind", viewed over 29,000 as of March 8, 2010 on YouTube, has become viral! The satirical rap is a clever twist on the lifestyle of Williamsburg compared to New York City. The main lyric of "In Williamsburg, there's nothing you can do" replaces the New York versions "nothing you can't do".

William and Mary Alumnus J.T. Blau and graduate student Michael Duarte said the video's production took about 25 hours. After writing the lyrics in a three-hour sitting, a camera was rented from William and Mary's Early Gregg Swem Library and a microphone was borrowed from a friend. The duo spent 15 hours filming at various Williamsburg sites including the Crim Dell Bridge, Dog Street & Sadler Center on William & Mary's Campus to name a few.

Do Blau & Duarte really think Williamsburg is dull? Though the boys refer to Williamsburg as the "city that always sleeps", they admit they love "the 'burg" and had great college experiences. As for a second video, if an idea strikes them, the duo would like to do another production.
