Autumn in Williamsburg
There is nothing more beautiful than Autumn in Williamsburg! As the mornings grow cooler and the first tinge of color on the trees turns to simmering, burnished brilliance, everything here takes on a fresh feel. When you browse the streets of Colonial Williamsburg during this time of the year, you may find yourself thinking about how these crisp mornings that we so enjoy were a harbinger of what was to come for the hardy colonists - one would guess the harsh winters were viewed a bit differently during Colonial times! But just as the colonists did, we can savor every single minute of this gorgeous season here in The Historic Triangle.
This is the perfect time of year for a carriage ride through Colonial Williamsburg. The air is cool enough to cuddle under a blanket, but warm enough so you aren't freezing! Carriage rides are so memorable here…the horses are full of energy and autumn colors are everywhere…it's a great way to make memories with a loved one or the whole family - it's something your kids will never forget!
Of course, the Halloween season is a big part of autumn in Williamsburg (this region is considered one of the most 'haunted' on the east coast!) with lots of lantern tours, ghost walks and holiday activities. Some are scary for kids, though, so plan accordingly!
One not-to-be-missed activity at this time of year is to drive the Colonial Parkway! There are 23 miles highway that connects the most historic sites in the region: Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg. It's an easy, relaxed (and free!) way to spend the day…the views are absolutely stunning, with the expanse of rolling hills simply ablaze in color. There are plenty of spots and scenic overlooks where you can pull off and just drink in the views, get some incredible photos and enjoy a picnic lunch.
Autumn in Williamsburg is a special time. The air is cool…you can walk everywhere throughout the historic district - browse artisan displays along the cobblestone streets or vist the Farmer's Market for some seasonal fruits, vegetables and gifts. This is a great time of year for a winery tour, football at William and Mary, and the perfect weather for a round of golf at a Williamsburg golf course.
Whether you decide to explore Williamsburg in autumn with your whole family or just the two of you, you'll be delighted by what the season has to offer!
